Toronto, Ontario
Valerie Marshall is a visual artist whose practice spans analogue and digital mediums. With a Master of Architecture from the University of Toronto, she has collaborated on diverse artistic and architectural projects, including installations, exhibitions, set design, filmmaking, product design, and illustration.
Her art practice, informed by her architectural training, uses traditional drafting techniques to explore contemporary issues of the built environment. Valerie’s work often reimagines the architecture of extraction, production, and infrastructure, blending buildings, plants, ruins, and architectural elements into fantastical compositions.
Q+A
Favourite artist(s) right now
I love art created by people with architectural backgrounds (from all different time periods), current favourites include: Jean-Jaques Leque, Madelon Vriesendorp, Brodsky & Utkin
Favourite medium
I'm constantly experimenting with different mediums and switching between digital, analogue, 2D, and 3D. Recently I've been enjoying producing ink on paper drawings, but hope to start incorporating more colour into my work soon!
