Toronto, Ontario
Valerie Marshall is an emerging visual artist based in Toronto, working with a variety of mediums, both analogue and digital. She recently received her Master of Architecture degree from the University of Toronto. Valerie has worked with firms, researchers, and designers on a diverse array of projects including: installations, exhibitions, set design, filmmaking, product design, illustration, publication, and interior design.
Valerie has developed her art practice alongside her architectural training and career; she is interested in the use of traditional architectural drafting and visualization techniques to investigate contemporary issues relating to the built environment. Valerieโs pieces explore the architecture of extraction industries, agricultural and industrial production, and infrastructure, often collaging together buildings, plants, ruins, and architectural elements in fantastical compositions.
Q+A
Favourite artist(s) right now
I love art created by people with architectural backgrounds (from all different time periods), current favourites include: Jean-Jaques Leque, Madelon Vriesendorp, Brodsky & Utkin
Favourite medium
I'm constantly experimenting with different mediums and switching between digital, analogue, 2D, and 3D. Recently I've been enjoying producing ink on paper drawings, but hope to start incorporating more colour into my work soon!
